Curtain bangs may have already earned their spot in the Hair Hall of Fame (the chop has over 4 billion views on TikTok) – but now, the ‘curtain cut’ is here to take things a step further.
Right now, layered, voluminous hair is having a moment. ‘70s influences like Farrah Fawcett flicks, shags and flipped fringes have collided with our ’90s hair infatuation (see: The Butterfly Cut, The Sachel, The Bouncy Blow Out) to give us a whole collection of trending cuts.
As for the curtain cut? It has modelled its shape on its billowy lil sis, the curtain bang.
What is the curtain cut?
The curtain cut mimics the shape of a curtain fringe, but across all the lengths of your hair. Like curtain bangs, the cut is parted in the middle, with the shortest sections starting closest to your parting on either side, then getting longer toward the outer perimeter. Just like, er, actual curtains, the cut has a flowy vibe that helps to frame the focal feature (your gorgeous face). The soft curves help to cup and contour your cheeks and chin, while the layers add a swishy, sexy volume that gives all the oomph you could need. “The cut is a mix of ‘70s layers and ‘The Rachel’ cut from friends,” explains top hair stylist, Milosz Pawlak, who created one of the prettiest renditions of the chop we’ve seen. “We did soft, face-framing layers to shape around the jawline,” he explains.
How to style the curtain cut?
There's one small snag. While the cut takes care of the structure on its own, to really give it the attention it deserves, you may want to perfect your styling routine. “I styled this using velcro rollers for the added volume and to show off the haircut shape,” Milosz revealed. Well worth it in our opinion.
